URWERK x ULYSSE NARDIN INTRODUCE THE UR-FREAK
A MEETING OF TWO PIONEERING MINDS
For the first time, Ulysse Nardin and URWERK unite to present a timepiece that redefines both maisons’ design codes. The UR-FREAK is a 100-piece limited edition that merges the Freak’s revolving movement architecture with URWERK’s wandering hour satellite display, resulting in a fully integrated calibre conceived from the ground up. This launch represents a rare moment in contemporary horology, where two independent creators combine philosophies without compromise.
ENGINEERING WITH A SHARED VISION
Ulysse Nardin and URWERK share parallel histories shaped by experimentation. One pioneered silicon technology and the radical idea of rotating an entire movement to tell the time. The other reimagined time display through orbital satellites and kinetic architecture. Though their worlds are distinct, both operate with the belief that independence is ultimately about creative freedom.
Their collaboration is not a stylistic exercise but a genuine mechanical partnership. The UR-FREAK co-develops an entirely new movement, fusing Ulysse Nardin’s technical prowess with URWERK’s display language into a single system.
MECHANICS THAT DEFINE THE DESIGN
At the core of the UR-FREAK is a fully integrated calibre built expressly to unite a three-hour rotating carousel with URWERK’s wandering hour satellites. More than 150 newly created components support this incredible architecture, including domed hour discs that reveal each jumping hour as the carousel completes its minute track.
In true Freak fashion, the regulating organ sits proudly on the front of the watch. A large silicon oscillator rotates in sync with the satellite assembly, completing a full revolution every three hours to enhance stability and rhythm. Without a traditional crown, the watch maintains a clean, uninterrupted silhouette: time is set through the turning bezel, and winding is performed via the caseback.
A TIMEPIECE THAT BINDS TWO WORLDS
The UR-FREAK carries the silhouette of the iconic Freak [ONE] while adopting the sharp, architectural vocabulary associated with URWERK. Its 44 mm sandblasted titanium case sets a deep, matte foundation, contrasted by the brand’s signature electric yellow accents that trace the satellite pointers, minute scale, and integrated rubber strap.
URWERK’s influence appears in the sculptural fluting of the bezel and caseback, giving the piece a sense of mechanical tension and visual depth. The result is a cohesive identity born from two distinct design philosophies and unified in a single, expressive form.
PIONEERING TECHNOLOGY IN A SHARED CALIBRE
The UR-FREAK connects two strands of technical mastery within a single, integrated movement. At its centre is Ulysse Nardin’s Grinder® system, an automatic mechanism designed to convert even the smallest motion into winding energy, offering a level of efficiency rarely seen in modern watchmaking.
Silicon plays a defining role in the calibre. The oversized balance wheel and anchor are crafted from the material, while the escapement wheel is coated in DIAMonSil, a diamond-reinforced treatment that enhances durability and reduces friction. Together, these innovations support a 90-hour power reserve and long-term stability, allowing the oscillator to take its place on the front of the watch as a visible, beating heart.
