Crowning Moments in Watchmaking
The Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, better known as the GPHG, is the watch industry's night of nights — a horological star-studded affair where a jury of experts decides on the best watches of the year. The 24th edition of the GPHG was held recently, and the winning watches didn't disappoint. We won't go over all the winning watches — head to the official GPHG website to see the full list. Having said that, here are the highlights.
It was a very good night for the poets of time, Van Cleef & Arpels. They won in the Ladies' and Ladies' Complication categories with the Lady Jour Nuit and the stunning Lady Arpels Brise d'Été and in the Artistic Crafts category with the Lady Arpels Jour Enchanté. All these pieces showcase Van Cleef & Arpels' distinctive approach to design, which prioritises complication and craft technique in service of narrative.

We suspect the Little Mermaid would approve. Chopard's L.U.C Qualité Fleurier also won the eco-innovation prize, a worthy recognition of Chopard's consistent work in sustainability.
H. Moser & Cie took home the Time Only prize, a hotly contested category full of worthy contenders. However it was the Streamliner Small Seconds Blue Enamel that won, deservedly so, and its compelling blend of a strong design aesthetic, trademark minimal dial and a slightly smaller case size that won the jury over.
Another prominent independent watchmaker who took home an award was De Bethune, winning the Men's Complication Watch Prize with theDB Kind of Grande Complication, a breathtaking piece of watchmaking with two faces and plenty of complications, including the brand's trademark spherical moonphase, a 30-second tourbillon and even jumping seconds. A worthy win in a hotly contested field
